Japa is one of the most powerful of God-reminding techniques and consists of the repetition of a mantra or prayer throughout the day. Japa is simply repeating a familiar prayer or chant, or even a small part of one, as often as possible during the day.
Although easy to do, this simple practice has amazing effects. It fills in idle moments with a constantly uplifting force. Over time it will gradually reprogram your subconscious mind and wash away worries and negative thoughts.
Try repeating, with devotion, a simple phrase, such as “I want only Thee, Lord,”, “I am Thine”, “Om, Guru”, or “Sri Ram, Jai Ram” as often as possible throughout the day. You can do it at any time that doesn’t require full concentration on the task at hand. Train yourself to look for opportunities to do your japa, such as when you are commuting, waiting in line, or cooking.
